Greenpeace Southeast Asia Annual Report 2019

Overview
The 2019 Annual Report, titled “Sounding the Alarm,” serves as a critical reflection on a year marked by climate emergencies and heightened public activism. Our task was to design a publication that translates the urgency of environmental crises; from devastating forest fires to the push for clean energy; into a narrative that is both authoritative and deeply moving.

Design Concept
The 2019 edition shifts toward a more “Action-Oriented” aesthetic. We utilized a distinctive forest green as the primary anchor color, symbolizing both the nature we protect and the “alarm” being raised. The layout balances dense, high-level data with intimate, large-scale portraiture to bridge the gap between regional statistics and individual human stories.

Key Features:

  • Information-Driven Layouts: A dedicated “Greenpeace in Numbers” section uses clean infographics, maps, and comparative charts to visualize growth in donor engagement and digital presence across Southeast Asia.
  • Human-Centric Narrative: By integrating personal testimonials and close-up photography; such as the poignant “Saving Our Forests” spread; the design creates an emotional connection that goes beyond traditional reporting.
  • Structured Typography: A clear typographic hierarchy was established to handle complex text across multiple campaigns (Climate, Energy, and Forest Protection), ensuring readability while maintaining a sense of urgency.
  • Strategic White Space: Amidst the “alarm” and heavy data, we utilized generous white space to allow key messages and impactful imagery to breathe, preventing the reader from feeling overwhelmed.

The Outcome “Sounding the Alarm” successfully functions as both a transparency document and a powerful advocacy tool. The design provides a professional platform for Greenpeace Southeast Asia to showcase its regional influence, the scale of its volunteer network, and the critical importance of its ongoing missions.
