Green Peace South East Asia Annual Report

Overview
The 2018 Annual Report for Greenpeace Southeast Asia, titled “You Can’t Sink a Rainbow,” is a visual documentation of a year fueled by environmental activism and grassroots movement. This project involved transforming complex regional data and campaign milestones into a compelling, editorial-style publication that resonates with donors, activists, and the general public.

Design Concept
The layout strategy was built on the principle of “Impactful Storytelling.” We utilized a bold, high-contrast color palette to differentiate key environmental issues: vibrant blue for plastic pollution and ocean campaigns, and a sobering red for air quality and climate energy.

By combining large-scale, emotive photography with clean, modern typography, the design ensures that the human element of the movement remains at the forefront. Every spread is designed to be a balance between urgent data and hopeful action.

Key Features:

  • Dynamic Visual Hierarchy: Using oversized headlines and bold pull-quotes to anchor the reader’s attention on critical environmental messages.
  • Data Visualization: Transforming statistics; such as the 239 cleanups across 42 countries; into digestible, large-format typography that highlights the scale of the impact.
  • Editorial Fluidity: A mix of full-bleed imagery and structured grid systems that mimic the feel of a high-end magazine rather than a traditional corporate report.
  • Regional Focus: Custom layouts that highlight specific regional wins, such as the Rainbow Warrior ship tour and the integration of PM2.5 readings in Thailand’s pollution monitoring.

The Outcome The result is a powerful communication tool that not only reports on a year’s activities but also serves as a call to action. The 2018 Annual Report successfully encapsulates the resilience and vibrancy of Greenpeace, reinforcing the message that while challenges are vast, the movement is “unsinkable.”
